Sarah is a Partner at Van Voorhis & Sosna LLP. She became certified as a specialist in Family Law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization in 2015. She served as the chairperson of the family law section of the San Francisco Bar Association's Barristers Club in 2013, and is currently serving as the Secretary to the Bar Association's Family Law Executive Committee.
Sarah decided to pursue training and practice as a Collaborative Divorce attorney out of a deep-rooted belief that families are best served when they can resolve difficult and deeply personal issues with dignity, respect, and a focus on the future. While traditional litigation is sometimes necessary, it can also intensify conflict, increase costs, and make it more difficult for families—particularly those with children—to move forward in a healthy and constructive way. The Collaborative Process offers a different path: one that encourages transparency, thoughtful problem-solving, and solutions tailored to the unique needs and priorities of each family. I value the opportunity to help clients protect what matters most to them while navigating an extraordinarily challenging time with greater control, privacy, and respect.
Since graduating from Santa Clara University School of Law, Sarah has exclusively practiced family law since 2008. She is well-versed in all areas of family law, including dissolutions, custody, spousal and child support, enforcement, and contempt proceedings. Additionally, she has demonstrated excellence in matters relating to domestic violence protective orders, and premarital agreements.
Sarah's experience in family law spans both nonprofit and private practice settings, giving her a broad perspective on the diverse needs of individuals and families navigating significant life transitions. Such work experience has provided Sarah with comfort and skills both in the courtroom and out. In 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026, Sarah achieved a remarkable milestone by earning the prestigious Super Lawyers award, a testament to her outstanding legal expertise and dedication to excellence. She was named 2023-2024 Volunteer Attorney of the year by San Francisco Unified Family Court.
